Kiss Me Over The Garden Gate…Beauté Comme Toi’s Fall 2020 Collection
The polygonum orientale, a beautiful flower more commonly known as ‘Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate’ was the starting point for the Fall 2020 Beauté Comme Toi bridal collection. With “the garden” being symbolic to this collection, many of the designs this season feature floral motifs as the main highlight, as we’ll see here.
Compared to the Modern Vintage style of the previous season, Beauté Comme Toi’s ‘Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate’ bridal collection features a lighter, more delicate aesthetic, with intricate, feminine embellishments at the fore. Airy fabrics give the collection a whimsical, breezy feel and timeless silhouettes, including ball gown, A-line, mermaid and sheath cuts, tie in with the image of enduring romance.
For this season, Beaute Comme Toi’s designer Jane Yule taps into her multi-cultural design background and love for poetry, art and theater to create one of kind gowns with an international appeal. Jane mused that kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate’s romantic name brought to mind the personal love story of Jane Eyre’s author Charlotte Brontë, inspiring a collection of exquisite wedding dresses that not only represents the elegant beauty and profusion of variety that nature’s blooms have to offer, but also the unbridled passion of idealized love.
The Fall 2020 collection introduces a bolder use of color (you’ll see touches of pink, purple, green in dresses like Iris and Ellie, and even an all-black wedding dress, Meredith) and a bridal robe — perfect for those getting ready or boudoir shots.
The Iris dress, inspired by a Monet painting of irises, features cheerful yellow embroidery over the bodice and sleeves. The skirt is sporadically dotted with beads to resemble dew drops.
Inspired by Monet's 'Water Lilies', the Zinnia gown features soft lace embroidered with beads, and peppered with clusters of beaded flowers. The highlight of this look is the cloud-like chapel train, made with ruffles of ivory tulle. One of the signature looks for this season, this gown's a showstopper look for sure!
The Clover gown, inspired by the painting “Rhododendrons” by Michael Shane Neal, features an airy feel achieved by mixing tulle with light laces and 3D appliques resembling petals. Dramatic flutter sleeves, which are detachable, provide brides with a quick option to change up their wedding day style.
The colorful embellishments -- a mix of light pink, green and purple -- on the dotted tulle Ellie gown, were also inspired by Monet's palette. A line of ruffles highlight the skirt of this boho chic dress, adding a playfulness to the look.
